Dayel Ostraco has been a Software Engineer and Consultant working for prestigious Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 clients around the world in a variety of sectors such as Starwood Hotels, Thomson Reuters, Alterian (recently acquired by SDL), Wilson Sporting Goods and Lord Abbot. In the public sector, he has lead and developed on large-scale engineering efforts for the Department of Defense, U.S. Navy, Space and Naval Warfare Systems (SPAWAR) and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. A hyperactive code monkey, insomniac, stats geek, history buff, mediocre golfer and textbook ENTP personality, Dayel started his first software company at the age of 17.
He has been a polyglot Software Engineer for over 12 years and his mobile experience dates all the way back to 2007 when he led the development of the first mobile site for Starwood Hotels. He continued to lead innovation at Starwood through a number of groundbreaking projects; including SPG Keyless, which allowed guests to access rooms via their mobile device, as well as the implementation of beacon technology at pilot properties to track guests within the hotel and provide them with concierge assistance based on location.
Dayel worked directly with the Google Glass team to build an experience for Starwood Preferred Guest members that allowed them to view reservations, book rooms and find attractions nearby. He has evangelized mobile development within the Commercial, Federal and Defense space and delivered native and mobile web apps on a variety of platforms, frameworks and languages. Dayel founded Qonceptual, a Charleston, SC based product development company, in 2013.
Qonceptual aligns with Dayel’s many passions like mentoring other engineers, building great teams and developing awesome product experiences that challenge people’s preconceived notions of how users should interact with applications and the world around them.
