Learn About Nate Taylor

Nate Taylor lives in Omaha, Nebraska where he currently functions as a Senior Software Engineer for Aviture.  Before joining the workforce, he earned a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Missouri – Rolla only to realize that circuit design was not his forte. He then worked at Caterpillar for a time before again becoming a full-time student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he pursued a Master’s of Divinity in Theology.  While pursuing that degree, however, he realized that vocational ministry wasn’t for him, and he returned to full-time software engineering in 2007.

Over the ensuing years, Nate has worked at companies that include Splinterworks, PaySAFE, and Infogroup; and honed his skills in design, architecture, development, QA, deployment, and customer support.  He developed windows apps in C++ and .Net before transitioning to web development.  Nate managed to work for more than 12 years as a professional developer before dipping into CSS, JavaScript or HTML, but once he was exposed to JavaScript, he never looked back. In the past 6 years he’s developed NodeJS applications, as well as Backbone, Angular and React front-ends.

Nate is a believer in the benefits of constant learning, and whether it be new technology, best practices or customer psychology, he always finds a way to apply it to the software projects he works on. He believes that software matters, and has the capacity to impact lives. As a result, he is an advocate of test driven development (TTD), and encourages engineers to consider the real life ramifications of their coding decisions.

When he’s not writing software, speaking or blogging, Nate can often be found creating courses on Pluralsight.  Away from work, Nate trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, and is an avid Chiefs and Royals fan. But when it’s all said and done, he finds the time spent at home with his wife and teenaged children the most precious.
