Ronak Raithatha – Speaker Spotlight

At the age of 16, Ronak Raithatha packed his bags, left his native Tanzania, and headed off to the United States to attend college. On arrival, he enrolled at the College of Charleston with the intent of becoming a pharmacist. However, Ronak discovered an affinity for computers in his freshman year, and quickly changed his focus to computer science.

His love affair with all things computer related intensified during his college years. By the end of his 4 year program, Ronak had amassed a significant body of work and gained experience in his chosen field. He designed websites for the South Carolina Space Grant Office, the College of Charleston’s media center, and collaborated on R&D projects for companies in Silicon Valley and the Research Triangle Park. All this while attending classes, and interning at Hawkes Learning as a backend software engineer.

Today, Ronak is employed at BoomTown as a backend engineer, focusing his energies primarily on Scala, NodeJS and the AWS landscape. Outside of work, he keeps busy teaching classes and mentoring students at the Charleston Digital Corridor.  In his free time, Ronak enjoys playing ping pong, League of Legends and obsessing over soccer.  He’s also content to chill out Downtown while listening to podcasts, and perusing articles.
