Chad Cravens is a multifaceted man. He has excelled as a leader, teacher, team member, friend, and member of the tech community. If Chad believes in something, he gives it his best effort – no half-stepping for Mr. Cravens.
An Alumni of New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) and University of New Mexico, Chad holds a degree in Information Technology from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT). During his time at NMMI, Chad’s stellar leadership abilities were recognized, evidenced by his position as Squad Leader, and his receipt of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. Chad’s aptitude for teaching was identified and utilized at NMT where he taught freshmen in ‘Computer Bootcamp’, and founded the Center for Excelled Studies in Information Security (CESIS). Throughout his tenure at SPARC, he taught Lunch n Learns on Cyber Security, and ran successful ‘mock security attacks’. Over the years, Chad has built on these early opportunities to share knowledge, and is now a familiar face on the conference speaker circuit.
Chad is a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer, who seeks out and embraces challenging projects that pair his passions for quality software development, creative software solutions, and cyber security, with his desire to exceed the expectations of his customers. As a consequence, Cravens founded Open Source Systems, a full-service software engineering and cyber security firm dedicated to delivering excellent engineering capabilities in software, cyber, mobile and cloud.
Even as a young man, Chad thought it important to be an active member of whatever society he found himself in at the time. Chad, who is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, took the time to organize sports events for, and teach English to young children over the course of a year while he studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain. More recently, he functioned as a board member at ThinkTEC an initiative of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Innovation Division.
In what little free time Chad has, he enjoys kickboxing and body building.
