Building Effective Conversational Apps with Bot Framework and LUIS

Everybody wants artificial intelligence in their day-to-day processes, and building chatbots with natural language processing is one avenue where industry leading companies are finding success–launching bots on such platforms as Slack, Skype, and Facebook Messenger.

The problem? It’s easy to build a bot. It’s hard to build a useful one. Building effective, useful bots with an intuitive conversational interface is one of the biggest challenges of integrating artificial intelligence in a modern workflow.

This talk will discuss leveraging natural language processing (NLP) to parse user intent from conversations in order to create an intuitive flow within your bot, while comparing machine learning techniques with the ease of use of Microsoft’s LUIS cognitive service.

We will then discuss how to integrate NLP into the Bot Framework, combining it with the waterfall pattern in the Bot Framework Node.JS SDK to produce an effective, high quality conversational experience.
